Family Pharmacy is Sarasota’s first PCAB Accredited® Sterile and Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy
In July 2009, Family Pharmacy in Sarasota, Florida earned the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board’s Seal of Accreditation for meeting the compounding pharmacy profession’s highest quality and safety standards for sterile and non-sterile compounding. Family Pharmacy has been tested against an extremely challenging set of national standards created by leading experts in pharmacy compounding today, and has met or exceeded all of the PCAB standards. We are honored to be among the first in the nation to achieve this distinction, which confirms our commitment to providing safe, personalized solutions that meet your medical needs.
With the estimated 30 to 40 million prescriptions that are compounded each year, there has been a need for an enhanced, profession-wide system of standards by which each compounding pharmacy can test its quality processes. While we are regulated by our State Board of Pharmacy, PCAB® Accreditation is an even more comprehensive way to ensure a compounding pharmacy has undergone the profession’s most rigorous review and inspection measures. PCAB® Accreditation requires that a pharmacy:
- Uses only high quality chemicals and equipment
- Employs compounding pharmacists and certified registered technicians who receive continuing education and training in compounding
- Passes an extensive on-site inspection
- Utilizes a system of continuous quality improvement
Family Pharmacy is inspected and reviewed for re-accreditation every three (3) years. On July 20, 2012, our pharmacy was re-accredited. If you would like more information on our PCAB® Accreditation, would like to review our Accreditation Report, or have questions about compounding pharmacy, please call us or visit www.pcab.org.
